LCD vs OLED: Why the Screen Changes the Price#

How to Prepare Your Handheld PC for Sale#

Two rules apply to every handheld gaming PC, no exceptions: it must power on, and it must be fully signed out of your accounts. A device that will not boot cannot be tested, and one still tied to your Steam or Microsoft account cannot be resold. Sort both before you post, and the rest is easy.

1. Back up your saves. On a Steam Deck, Steam Cloud syncs most saves automatically — confirm it has synced before you wipe. On a Windows handheld, back up anything local to your Microsoft account or an external drive.

2. Sign out of your accounts. On the Steam Deck, sign out of Steam and, ideally, deauthorise the device in your Steam Guard settings. On the ROG Ally, Legion Go or MSI Claw, sign out of your Microsoft account.

3. Factory reset. On a Steam Deck, open Settings, then System, and use the reset or re-image option to wipe the device back to a clean SteamOS install. On a Windows handheld, open Settings, System, Recovery, and choose Reset this PC, then Remove everything. This clears your library, saves, passwords and Wi-Fi.

4. Clean it up. A quick wipe with a microfibre cloth over the screen and grips makes a better impression at inspection. Do not use anything abrasive on the screen.

5. Pack it securely. Handhelds have exposed screens and sticks, so wrap the device well and pad the box on all sides. If you kept the original box or a carry case, use it.
