The Switch 2 Is the Best Console to Sell Right Now
That sounds like a strange thing to say about a console barely a year old. But it is precisely because it is barely a year old that the numbers work in your favour.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and spent its first year in chronically tight supply. Demand still outstrips stock in the UK, which means the second-hand market pays close to retail for used consoles. A Switch 2 in good condition currently trades in for more than double what a Switch OLED fetches — and unlike almost every other console, it has barely depreciated since launch.
If you have a Switch 2 you are not using — an upgrade that did not stick, a duplicate in the household, a bundle console bought for the game — this is the window to sell it. Console values never go up. The moment Nintendo catches up on supply, second-hand prices come down.
This guide covers exactly what your Switch 2 is worth, what affects the price, and how to prepare it for sale.
What Your Switch 2 Is Worth Right Now
Current UK cash trade-in prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 (256GB):
| Condition | What it means | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Pristine | As new, no marks, fully working | around £270 |
| Good | Light signs of use, fully working | around £230 |
| Fair | Clear wear, fully working | around £190 |
| Poor | Heavy wear or faults, still powers on | around £65 |
These are real cash prices — what lands in your bank account — not optimistic eBay listings that may never sell. Prices update daily with the market, so check the live quote for your Switch 2 before deciding. The quote you generate is locked for 21 days, so a falling market cannot pull the price out from under you while you think about it.
For comparison: the Switch OLED currently fetches around £100 in pristine condition, and older Switch models less again. If you are choosing which console in the house to sell, the Switch 2 returns by far the most cash — and if you want to clear out both, our original Switch selling guide covers the OLED, V2, V1 and Lite.
What Affects the Price
Completeness: Joy-Con 2 and Dock
The quote assumes a complete console: the tablet unit, both Joy-Con 2 controllers, and the dock. A console-only sale is still fine, but expect a reduced offer. Chargers and HDMI cables are nice to include but do not change the grade.
The original box is not required. A boxless Switch 2 in good condition is still a good-condition Switch 2. Do not let a missing box put you off getting a quote.
The Mario Kart World Bundle
A large share of UK launch-window consoles were the Mario Kart World bundle. Two things matter here:
- The console is identical hardware and gets the identical quote.
- The game depends on the format. A physical game card is yours to sell separately — Nintendo first-party launch titles hold £40-£55 second-hand, and selling it individually beats bundling it into a console trade-in. A digital bundle code is tied to your Nintendo Account: it goes with you, and it adds nothing to the console's value.
Condition Honesty
The single best thing you can do for a smooth sale is grade the console honestly. If there is a scratch on the screen, say fair rather than good. Honest grading means the inspection matches your description and you get paid same-day, rather than receiving a counteroffer and losing days going back and forth. TechLoop's grading guide shows exactly what each grade means.
Faults and Damage
A Switch 2 with heavy wear, a cracked screen or dodgy Joy-Con 2 rails is still worth selling — select Poor condition and you will see the exact price instantly, no "send it in and we'll see" games. The only hard requirements: it must power on and boot, it must not be account-locked, and it must not be reported lost or stolen.
How to Prepare Your Switch 2 for Sale
Fifteen minutes of prep protects your data and speeds up your payment.
1. Back Up Your Saves
With a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, most saves sync to the cloud automatically. Check under System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Cloud that everything you care about has uploaded. Note that a handful of titles do not support cloud saves.
2. Deregister the Console From Your Nintendo Account
Open the eShop, select your profile icon, and deregister the console as your primary device. This is the step that keeps your digital library cleanly attached to your account rather than the hardware.
3. Remove Your microSD Express Card
If you added a microSD Express card for extra storage, take it out — it is yours, and game data on it is encrypted to your console anyway. The card slot is under the kickstand, same as the original Switch.
4. Factory Reset
System Settings → System → Formatting Options → Initialise Console. This wipes users, saves, screenshots and settings, and returns the console to its out-of-box state.
5. Clean It and Pack It Properly
A wipe with a microfibre cloth genuinely helps your grade on inspection. Pack the console, Joy-Con 2 controllers and dock in a sturdy box with real padding — the original box inside a shipping box is ideal if you have it, but any well-padded box works. Postage is free with a tracked, insured Royal Mail label.
Where to Sell a Switch 2 in the UK
You have the usual options, and the trade-offs are the same as for any console:
- Online buyback (TechLoop) — instant quote, price locked for 21 days, free insured postage, same-working-day payment after inspection. The straightforward option, and for a high-value console like the Switch 2, the insured tracked postage matters.
- CeX and GAME — instant in-store payment, but expect noticeably less cash, and GAME leans heavily toward store credit.
- eBay — potentially the highest gross price while Switch 2 demand runs hot, but 12.8% fees, postage costs, scam risk and buyer disputes eat the difference. High-value consoles are a favourite target for eBay payment scams; factor that in.
- Facebook Marketplace — zero fees, but you are meeting strangers with £250 of hardware and negotiating in person.

The Bottom Line
The Switch 2 is the rare console you can sell a year after launch and get back most of what you paid. That will not stay true forever — it never does. Supply improves, bundles multiply, and eventually a revised model arrives and undercuts the original.
Get your Switch 2 quote — it takes about 30 seconds, the price is locked for 21 days, postage is free and insured, and you are paid the same working day your console passes inspection. If the number surprises you, that is exactly why now is the time.
