About these terms
These terms and conditions ("Terms") apply when you sell a device to TechLoop through our website at www.thetechloop.co.uk or at our premises in Swindon. By submitting a trade-in order, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
Please read these Terms carefully before placing your order. If you have any questions, contact us at support@thetechloop.co.uk before proceeding.
Who we are
TechLoop is based at Unit 8, Pembroke Centre, Cheney Manor Industrial Estate, Swindon SN2 2PQ, United Kingdom.
Definitions
- "Device" — the mobile phone, tablet, laptop, smartwatch, or games console you are selling to us.
- "Quote" — the price we offer for your Device based on the information you provide.
- "Counteroffer" — a revised price offered after inspection if the Device does not match your description.
- "Trade-In" or "Order" — the transaction created when you accept a Quote and submit your details.
- "Inspection" — our assessment of the Device after we receive it.
Who can sell to us
To sell a device to TechLoop, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a UK resident with a valid UK bank account
- Be the legal owner of the Device (or have the owner's authorisation to sell it)
- Not be acting on behalf of a business unless agreed with us in advance
By placing an order, you confirm that you have full legal right and authority to sell the Device and that it is free from any outstanding finance agreements, insurance claims, or contractual restrictions.
Accepted devices and exclusions
We accept mobile phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and games consoles. We reserve the right to refuse any device that:
- Is reported stolen or blacklisted on a national IMEI database
- Has an active activation lock (iCloud, Google, Samsung) that has not been removed
- Is counterfeit or contains non-genuine internal components
- Is rooted, jailbroken, or running modified firmware
- Does not power on or is damaged beyond reasonable assessment
- Has been subject to liquid damage that prevents safe inspection
Please do not send accessories, original boxes, cases, or cables with your device. We cannot store or return accessories.
How it works
- Get a Quote: Select your device, describe its condition, and receive an instant Quote on our website.
- Submit your details: Provide your name, address, email, phone number, and bank details to place your order.
- Ship your device: We provide a free prepaid Royal Mail shipping label. Post your device within the Quote validity period.
- Inspection:We inspect your device against your description. This typically takes place within 1–2 working days of receipt.
- Payment: If the device matches your description, we pay the original Quote price. If it differs, we send you a Counteroffer (see Section 10).
Quotes and pricing
Your Quote is valid for 21 days from the date it is issued. If we do not receive your device within this period, the Quote will expire and your order will be cancelled automatically.
Quotes are based on the device details and condition you provide. The final price is subject to our physical inspection confirming that the device matches your description. We do not guarantee the Quote price until inspection is complete.
Our prices are subject to market conditions and may change at any time. However, once you submit an order, the quoted price is locked for the 21-day validity period provided the device matches your description.
Shipping and postage
We provide a free prepaid Royal Mail Tracked shipping label with every order. You are responsible for packaging the device securely to prevent damage in transit.
- Proof of postage: You must obtain and keep a proof of postage receipt when you drop off your parcel. Without it, claims for lost items cannot be processed.
- Transit risk: The device remains your property and at your risk until it is received and signed for at our premises. We are not responsible for loss or damage caused by the postal service during transit, but we will assist you with any claim.
- Insurance:The prepaid label includes Royal Mail's standard compensation cover. If your device is worth more, you may choose to use your own courier with higher insurance at your own cost.
Inspection and condition assessment
Every device we receive undergoes a thorough inspection to verify its condition, functionality, and identity (including IMEI/serial number checks). Our assessment considers:
- Cosmetic condition (screen, body, frame)
- Functional performance (touchscreen, buttons, cameras, speakers, microphone, charging)
- Battery health
- Software status (activation locks, firmware)
- IMEI/serial number verification against national databases
If the device matches the condition you described at the time of your Quote, we will pay the original Quote price. If our inspection reveals a material difference, we will make a Counteroffer (see Section 10).
Counteroffers
If our inspection finds that the device does not match the condition you described, we will email you a Counteroffer with a revised price and a clear explanation of the adjustment.
- Accept: If you accept the Counteroffer, we will process your payment at the revised price.
- Decline: If you decline, we will return your device to you free of charge via tracked delivery.
- No response: If we do not receive a response within 7 calendar days, the Counteroffer will be automatically accepted and payment processed at the revised price. We will send you email reminders before this happens.
We aim to provide fair and consistent assessments based on industry-standard grading criteria. If you disagree with our assessment, please contact us and we will review the decision.
Payment
All payments are made by bank transfer to the UK bank account you provide when placing your order. We do not offer payment by cheque, PayPal, cash (for postal orders), or store credit.
- Payment is initiated on the same working day that inspection is completed and the price is confirmed (Monday–Friday, excluding public holidays).
- Funds typically arrive within 2 hours, though some banks may take up to 24 hours to process incoming transfers.
- It is your responsibility to provide correct bank details. Once a payment has been sent, it cannot be recalled or reissued to a different account.
- If you need to update your bank details before payment is made, contact us as soon as possible.
Ownership and title transfer
Ownership of the device passes to TechLoop when both of the following conditions are met:
- We have received the device at our premises; and
- We have dispatched payment to you.
Until both conditions are met, the device remains your property. By placing an order, you warrant that you are the legal owner of the device and have full authority to transfer ownership to us.
Your data, accounts, and SIM card
Before sending your device, you must:
- Factory reset the device to remove all personal data
- Sign out of all accounts (iCloud, Google, Samsung, etc.)
- Disable Find My iPhone / Find My Device / Samsung Find
- Remove your SIM card and any memory cards
TechLoop accepts no responsibility for personal data, photos, messages, or any other content remaining on a device after it is received. SIM cards or memory cards received with devices will be securely destroyed and cannot be returned.
Activation locks
If your device arrives with an active activation lock (iCloud Activation Lock, Google Factory Reset Protection, or Samsung Reactivation Lock), we will contact you with instructions to remove it.
If the lock is not removed within 7 days of our notification, the device will be returned to you at your cost. We cannot pay for devices with active activation locks.
IMEI checks and stolen devices
All devices are checked against national IMEI databases. If a device is reported as lost, stolen, or blacklisted:
- The device will be held for a 28-day quarantine period. During this time, you must provide evidence that the record has been cleared (e.g. confirmation from your network provider).
- If the record is not cleared within 28 days, we may pass the device to the relevant authorities. No payment will be made.
- If payment has already been made and the device is subsequently flagged, you must reimburse TechLoop in full within 7 days of notification.
- We may share your details with law enforcement agencies where we are required or requested to do so.
We take the sale of stolen devices seriously and cooperate fully with law enforcement.
Counterfeit and non-genuine devices
If a device is found to be counterfeit or to contain non-genuine internal components (such as a replacement screen or battery not manufactured by the original equipment manufacturer), we reserve the right to reject it. Rejected devices will be returned to you at your cost.
Walk-in trade-ins
We accept walk-in trade-ins at our premises in Swindon. For walk-in orders:
- Inspection is carried out while you wait
- The price is agreed in person before any payment is made
- Payment is processed the same day upon agreement
- Walk-in trade-ins are not distance contracts and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 do not apply
Cancellation
You may cancel your order at any time before you post your device to us. To cancel, email us at support@thetechloop.co.uk with your order reference.
Once you have posted your device, you cannot cancel the order. However, if we make a Counteroffer that you do not wish to accept, you may decline it and we will return your device free of charge (see Section 10).
Orders where the device is not received within 21 days of the Quote will be cancelled automatically.
Our liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Subject to the above, TechLoop shall not be liable for:
- Any loss of data remaining on a device sent to us
- Any loss or damage to a device during postal transit (see Section 8)
- Any indirect or consequential loss, including loss of income, profits, or anticipated savings
- Any delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control (see Section 20)
Our total liability to you in connection with any order shall not exceed the Quote price for that order.
Events outside our control
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations where such failure or delay results from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: natural disasters, pandemics, postal service disruptions, industrial action, power failures, or government actions.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will apply to orders placed after the date of the update. Orders already in progress will be governed by the Terms in effect at the time the order was placed.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
